Hello! My name is Kaeden Novotny, I’m the owner and operator of The Fungi Pharm. I moved to the Willamette Valley in 2016 for an internship at a regenerative farm, in a quest to better understand where my food comes from. I soon became enthralled with the world of mushroom hunting in the beautiful PNW mountains. Five years later, I combined my passion for mushrooms and experience in agriculture and started The Fungi Pharm. I am inspired by the amazing things that mushrooms can do for the environment and the people that call it home. My goal is to share this inspiration through providing high quality and sustainable food to the community!
The farm consists of two shipping containers which have been customized with environmental controls and shelving. One shipping container is the lab, where cultures are grown out on petri dishes and production blocks are inoculated and colonized. The other container is the fruiting room where the actual mushrooms grow and are then harvested. The mushrooms are grown on a mixture of oak sawdust and soybean hulls (a plentiful agricultural byproduct), and the grain spawn is made from organic rye berries sourced locally from Camas Country Mills. The farm is located on a large property that sits at the base of Mount Tom, about halfway between Coburg and Harrisburg Oregon.
